Grade 4 - Field Trip to DakshinaChitra - 2025
Grade 4 students of NPS International, Chennai, had an enriching visit to DakshinaChitra Heritage Museum on 28th August 2025. Located on East Coast Road near Muttukadu, DakshinaChitra showcases the art, architecture, lifestyles, crafts, and performing traditions of South India. The trip aimed to help students appreciate cultural diversity and understand the importance of preserving traditional heritage.
The visit began with live demonstrations of South Indian folk dance, captivating students with colorful costumes and rhythmic movements. After a brief orientation, they were divided into two groups and guided by resource persons of the heritage museum through authentic houses from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Each house reflected the architectural brilliance of its region. Students observed the unique building styles, courtyards, and intricate woodwork, which gave them an idea of how people lived in earlier times.
They also explored craft demonstrations, witnessing pottery and weaving techniques, and viewed exhibits highlighting South Indian cultural and social life. The visit concluded with an exciting bullock-cart ride, much to the students’ delight.
The field trip provided valuable insights into South Indian traditions, art, and architecture, nurturing appreciation for India’s rich cultural heritage. It was a perfect blend of education, culture, and fun, connecting classroom learning with real-life experiences.
