International Day of Yoga, 2026
Our school celebrated International Day of Yoga 2026 with the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," emphasizing the importance of maintaining mobility, independence, and quality of life through simple and sustainable yoga practices.
The celebration began with a special session for students of Grades 10 to 12 in the auditorium. The session focused on the importance of spinal health and its vital role in healthy ageing. Students learned four simple spinal stretching exercises designed to promote flexibility and maintain a healthy spine. They were encouraged to discuss the importance of spinal health with their parents and grandparents and teach them these practices, reinforcing the idea that healthy ageing begins with small, consistent habits shared within the family. The session concluded with a four-minute guided meditation, allowing students to experience a few moments of stillness and inner awareness.
Students of Grades 6, 7, and 8 participated in separate yoga sessions conducted in batches in the Exam Hall. Each session began with a brief introduction to the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," followed by the demonstration and practice of four simple spinal stretching exercises. Students were encouraged to understand the importance of caring for the spine from an early age and to take these practices home by teaching them to their parents and grandparents, thereby extending the benefits of the programme beyond the school campus.
As part of the International Day of Yoga celebrations, students of Grade 9 participated in five sessions of Surya Shakthi conducted over the course of the month. Surya Shakthi is a 20-step sequential yogic practice that engages over 80% of the muscles in the body, helping develop strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and endurance. Through these sessions, students gained firsthand experience of this dynamic practice and were encouraged to incorporate it into their daily routine as a simple and effective way to support lifelong health and well-being.
The celebration served as a meaningful reminder that yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a way of nurturing health, awareness, and responsibility throughout life. By encouraging students to take these simple practices home and share them with their families, the programme reflected the true spirit of this year's theme—Yoga for Healthy Ageing.
