NPSI Chennai MUN 2025-2026
On July 11th and 12th, 2025, NPS International, Chennai (NPSIC) had the honour of organising and hosting its second inter-school Model United Nations conference on campus. This student-led simulation of UN proceedings was orchestrated entirely by the students of Grades 11 and 12, who took on the responsibility of hosting the event with immense dedication and professionalism.
The two-day conference brought together five dynamic committees: UNHRC (United Nations Human Rights Council), ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council), UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), IPC (International Press Corps), and an engaging special committee, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). These committees welcomed student delegates from various schools across Chennai, who represented a wide range of nations and organisations with poise and preparedness.
The opening ceremony commenced in the school auditorium with a traditional lamp lighting and a soulful invocation. Senior students then delivered a warm welcome address. Associate Principal Ms. Ranjani Ayyar, in her inaugural speech, encouraged all participants to engage with a spirit of collaboration and healthy competition. The ceremony also included a brief introduction to NPSIC’s flagship science fest, PLUNGE, setting the stage for a weekend of exploration and intellectual exchange. Delegates then moved to their respective committee rooms to begin formal proceedings.
The host school’s senior students formed the Executive Boards for the five committees, moderating discussions and guiding the formal flow of debate. Delegates arrived well-prepared, having completed prior research and drafted policy statements aligned with each committee’s agenda. Several committees saw the unexpected addition of crises, testing the delegates' ability to respond swiftly and think critically in real time.
The second day of the event culminated in the drafting and passing of multiple resolution, a testament to the delegates’ collaborative spirit and negotiation skills. Students were recognised for their exceptional performance with awards for Best Delegate, Honourable Mentions, and Best Position Papers.
The event served as a powerful platform for the display of knowledge, research, and skill by all participants. From articulate speeches to fact-based rebuttals, the discussions across committees reflected the delegates’ maturity and awareness of global issues. The MUN experience was not only a rigorous academic exercise but also a space for young minds to grapple with the nuances of diplomacy, international relations, and critical thinking.
The first day concluded with a vibrant cultural programme by the senior students of NPSIC, featuring a musical medley, an energetic dance, and two captivating percussion performances that added a festive note to the academic atmosphere.
The closing ceremony, held on Saturday, July 12th, opened with a heartfelt address by former Director General Abhimanyu Pant, who commended the efforts of his juniors and reflected on the evolution of the MUN at NPSIC.
Associate Principal Ms. Radhika Madhavan addressed the gathering, congratulating the student organisers for their meticulous planning and seamless execution of the event. The ceremony concluded with the much-anticipated prize distribution, leaving participants with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
The NPSIC MUN 2025 was more than just a simulation—it was a vibrant celebration of dialogue, diplomacy, and youth leadership.
