Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School Debate Competition, 2024
NPS International, Chennai played hosts to participants from 6 schools in the prestigious Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School Category I, stage I. Held in the state-of-art auditorium, the event witnessed showcase of critical thinking, logical analysis and strong argument.
The speakers from the participating schools accompanied by a teacher arrived at the venue by 9 am. After partaking in the breakfast provided, the event began with an opening ceremony.
The ceremony began with an invocation song presented by the students of the host school. A few words extolling the greatness of Mr Frank Anthony were expressed. The moderator then introduced the judges for the event.
At 9:30 am, the envelope containing the topic for the debate was opened in the presence of all the participants. The same was announced to one and all present, particularly the speakers for the event. The speakers were then escorted to the library for their stipulated 1-hour preparation time.
The debate began on schedule. The debaters confidently put forth their arguments. Their grasp and understanding of the topic were visible when they defended their statements during the rebuttal round. The questions posed were relevant and appropriate. The speakers were respectful of each other and consciously steered clear of unparliamentary and derogatory comments. Post lunch, the results were announced.
Madhav Venkatachalam from Sishya Adyar School was adjudged Best Speaker. The 1st runner-up spot was bagged by Tabitha George Vengal also from Sishya Adyar School. Consequently, Sishya Adyar was adjudged the winning school. Certificates were handed over to all the winning participants.
The debate competition was brought to a close with the National Anthem. Kudos to all the teachers involved in the organising and hosting of the event for their impeccable planning and execution!
