International Yoga Day and World Music Day
June 21, 2022 witnessed the school celebrating the twin days – International Yoga Day and World Music Day. Dressed in pristine white, students began the day by focussing on mindfulness by performing asanas, breathing and eye exercises under the guidance of their teachers and aided by a video.
Across Grades 1 to 12, the focus and importance of Yoga and its benefits were highlighted. The morning saw the entire school reverberating with positive energy from the chants of the universal mantra Aum. The calm and serene atmosphere added to the positive outlook that remained with the students through the day.
School took special initiative to invite the renowned artist Kalaimamani Isai Peroli, Sikkil Mala Chandrasekhar on the occasion of World Music Day. A recipient of several awards Ms. Mala Chandrasekhar has three decades of performance to her credit. Tutored under Sikkil sisters she combines their unique styles and creates one of her own.
The auditorium resounded with the melodious sounds of her flute accompanied by top artist Kumbakonam M. R. Gopinath on the Violin, Sri Neyveli Skandasubramaniam on the Mridangam and Trichy Murali on the Ghatam.
Students were exposed to the concert par excellence, for over an hour. The carefully selected songs included Maha Ganapathim, Sobillu Sapthaswara, Kuroi Ondrum Ellai, concluding on the ever-popular piece Maithreem Bhajatha, immortalised by Smt. M.S. Subbalakshmi.
The younger children were entreated by Mr. Kadirvel, our Music faculty, with his musical ensemble of instruments. The excitement generated by the rhythm and the beats was perceptible in the nodding heads and tapping feet.
