Ganamrutham 2024-2025
"In the Indian tradition, music is not an art form but a way of connecting to the divine."
– Zakir Hussain
The arrival of the calendar year of 2025 was marked by Ganamrutham 11, NPSIC’s annual music concert. A culmination of the year-long learning of music, Ganamrutham spotlights the musical flair and ability of our students to present songs of a diverse range and transcending barriers of religion and language.
The programme was held as two sessions – grades 1 and 2 performing in the morning and the latter session witnessing the performance of students of grades 3 to 5.
The sessions began with the lamp lighting followed by an invocation performance by the middle years choir group. The singers also performed a popular Thyagaraja Pancharatna kriti – Saadinchane Manasa that showcased their musical skills.
The musical repertoire presented by the primary years in the concert included diverse genres - devotion, patriotism, folk and Carnatic. The musicality in each of the performances was supported in rhythm and pitch by the Pakkavaadhyam team led from the front by our Instrument faculty Mr. Kathirvel. The entire symphony was magical.
The morning concert presented songs of diverse range– a medley of devotional and unity-themed songs, to a celebration of nature and love. The second session included a motley of songs; it combined vibrant folk and devotional pieces to pieces honouring feminine divinity and environment. The rendering of the Quawali-styled song and the thillana added a special flavour to the concert.
‘Swaminatha paripalaya’, a challenging composition with its inner meaning of Om was rendered with perfection by the middle year students concluded the morning session.
Titled ‘from Retro to the Metro’, the final performance of the day delivered by the students of grades 4 and 5 took the audience on a musical journey with its collection of songs that weaved the old melodies to the latest beats. It was a spectacular finale, indeed.
Interspersed with solo vocal and instrumental performances by select students of the middle years, the entire event is a testimonial to the passion and musical talents of our students. The programme, hosted by a well-trained group of students of middle years, left the audience spellbound.
Mr. Indran Rajendran, poet, art critic and connoisseur of art and sculpture, was the Chief Guest of the first session, appreciated the incredible synchrony and discipline exhibited by the students and stressed the role of music in shaping the personality of the child.
Mr. Ramesh Vinayakam, a multifaceted artist of music industry, was the guest of honour in the latter session. He commended the school’s role in promoting music and emphasised the need to understand the music in nature and that which surrounds us. Our Principal, Ms. Sudha Balan, applauded the young singers and performers for their recital. She also praised the pakkavaadhyam team and the teachers involved in the event with a special mention of Ms. Madhumita Shenoy, the music faculty. She reiterated the need to remain connected to music even as we grow up to become professionals. The support and the encouragement of the audience for the performers was praiseworthy.
Music is a great communicator and demands a response. The humming of the songs long after the conclusion of the event speaks of the success of the event.
