GMC Onam Celebrations 2024
The festive spirit of Onam filled the school with joy and tradition as students and teachers came together, adorned in beautiful shades of white, reflecting cultural heritage. Children brought vibrant coloured flowers from home, and the day began with a fun activity of sorting the flowers by colour. This engaging task allowed the students to work collaboratively and thoughtfully as they prepared for the next event—creating their very own pookalam, the traditional floral carpet.
Each class worked with enthusiasm to design and arrange the pookalam, crafting intricate patterns and beautiful designs. The children felt a deep sense of pride and accomplishment upon completing their floral carpets, beaming as they gathered around their creations for photographs. The activity fostered teamwork, creativity, and a sense of achievement, providing a platform for collaboration and empathy as they worked together toward a shared goal.
The day was made even more special by performances from the teachers, who delighted the children with traditional Onam songs and dances. The students were captivated as the story of King Mahabali was narrated, offering them a glimpse into the rich cultural history and values that Onam represents. Through these stories and performances, children absorbed the important values of generosity, kindness, and unity, which are central to the festival.
The Onam celebration was not only a cultural experience but also a wonderful opportunity for learning and growth, leaving the children with lasting memories and valuable life lessons.
