Montessori Parent Workshop – Areas of Learning
‘Plainly, the environment must be a living one, directed by a higher intelligence, arranged by an adult who is prepared for his mission.’
~ Dr Maria Montessori
On the 12th of August 2023, EY – Montessori conducted a parent workshop on the 'Areas of Learning’. The workshop aimed to elaborate on the different areas of the child’s learning journey through the year and the support that can be extended to these young learners at home to promote concentration and independence.
The workshop was conducted in small groups by the teachers for the freshers, juniors and senior levels separately. It was designed to make the session interactive and comfortable for the parents and teachers to communicate.
The workshop started with parents exploring the various materials laid out for display that their children work through the academic year. It kindled their curiosity and interest to understand the purpose and aim achieved by their children when working with these materials. Followed by this, teachers gave an insight into the materials from the four areas namely – EPL, Sensorial, Math and Language and how children work inside the environment to reach their developmental needs.
The purpose and developmental stages of the children what the materials and the classroom have to offer to the children in their developmental journey. A few practical ideas to integrate Montessori principles at home were also shared during the session, thus partnering parents with educators in the child's journey towards independence. The workshop concluded with the question-and-answer session that was highly interactive. The parents shared an encouraging and positive feedback about the workshop and appreciated the effort taken by the school to involve parents in overall child development.
