Plunge 2023-2024
“Competition is the best form of motivation”. The 10th edition of Plunge at NPSIC brought life to these words by inspiring competitors to display their knowledge, creativity and application skills. With an array of competitions designed to test the mettle of the participants, this year’s edition afforded students the opportunity to express their ingenuity, take the initiative and innovate strategies.
The competitions, this year, was diverse, with a number of departments holding forth stimulating trials. Mock Stock, making its Plunge debut, offered the apt platform for students to step into the world of high stakes investments and exhibit trading skills with the virtual money and portfolio of stocks provided. The challenge for the teams was to maximise their profits through trading. With a recreation of the stock exchange, the room was filled with vibrant and energetic stockbrokers bidding for the shares of their assigned companies. The audience could only but marvel at the adeptness and quick wit of the participants. Kudos to the organising students of grade 10 whose back planning and tireless execution helped pull off this contest with elan. With 10 schools throwing in their hats, DAV Pallikaranai bagged the honours while Vaels International School was the 1st runner up and PSBB Millennium OMR secured the 3rd position.
Construction of a lighthouse from the given materials within a stipulated period of time tested the dexterity and sharp mindedness of the contestants. Additionally, they were also required to complete a written quiz. Comprising a team of three middle-schoolers, these students vied with one another for the ultimate prize. The atmosphere was charged and the intense focus of the students quite appealing. Judges have marked these teams on a variety of criteria including construction and aesthetic presentation. San Academy, Kamakoti Nagar school came up trumps for their excellent workmanship while Vista Billabong and PSBB Millennium OMR secured the 2nd and 3rd positions.
The MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. The NPSIC MUN in its second edition saw the delegates assume the mantle of their given countries with great fervour. The different committees had their own agendas. The rights of the migrant workers and displaced persons with special emphasis on exploitative practices by owners was the agenda of the UNHRC.
The EC focused on the challenges of integration of post- Soviet and Eastern European states into the EU, with special emphasis on Hungary and Poland. Examining the US- China trade war , with special emphasis on further decouping was ECOSOC’s concern. DISEC deliberated on the situation in the South Sea China region, with special emphasis on Taiwan. The IPC had a group of journalists who covered the developments going on in all of these committees in an unbiased manner.
All the delegates put up reasoned arguments and were able to communicate what they felt as delegates of different countries with consummate ease. What is commendable is that all committees were able to pass resolutions.
