Young Authors’ Day, 2024-2025
Creative characters, thickening plots and layered stories – Young Authors’ Day at NPSI put the spotlight on students’ literary creations. This initiative is designed to encourage students to explore the world of writing and share their imaginative stories with the school community. Students of grades 4 and 5 are guided through the process over a period of several weeks.
In the weeks leading up to the event, students were taught the essential elements of book writing. They learned about various genres such as fiction and non-fiction, and were introduced to key concepts like the protagonist, antagonist, and the story mountain, which guided them in structuring their narratives. The students also explored the significance of characters, theme, and setting, gaining a deeper understanding of how these components shape a story.
With this knowledge, each student began their exciting journey of creating their own original stories. They were encouraged to be as creative as possible, and the process allowed them to explore different ideas and themes. Once the drafts were completed, the stories were carefully reviewed for grammatical and spelling errors, and feedback was provided to help refine their work.
The culmination of their hard work was the creation of beautifully bound books, each one a testament to the imagination and dedication of our young authors. Over 200 books were proudly exhibited during the event, where students had the opportunity to share their stories with a wider audience. The event was made even more special by the presence of parents, who were invited to enjoy reading the books written by their children.
Young Authors' Day was a resounding success, inspiring our students to discover the joy of storytelling and allowing them to take pride in their creativity. It was a day filled with excitement, learning, and most importantly, the celebration of young minds and their incredible potential as future authors.
