“The festivals are cool because you make a lot of connections at the festivals.”
- Philipp Wolter
The festivals in Sri Lanka are deeply rooted in the religious and cultural practices of its people. They serve not only as times for celebration but also as opportunities for communities to come together, honour their traditions, and pass down their heritage.
Grade 4D presented their assembly on the topic – Festivals of Sri Lanka, Students took the audience on a journey of the festivals of Sri Lanka, reflecting on local customs and providing a unique insight into the Sri Lankan way of life. For the audience, it was an immersive experience of the rich cultural heritage through engaging narratives and performances.
The assembly began with a provoking thought for the day setting the tone for the assembly.
This was followed by the news that highlighted recent events both national and international. While the news from the field of science shed light on the Space fun activity conducted at NPSI, the sports news brought to fore the recent exploits of the Indian team followed by an update on the weather.
Students dressed in traditional attire performed the Kandyan Dance, a traditional Sri Lankan dance known for its dynamism, powerful footwork, leaps and whirls.
The children then presented interesting information on ‘Festivals of Sri Lanka’, dated back to ancient times. Stories associated with various myths, ritual and legends were shared leaving the audience wondering about their origins.
The talented nightingales of the class rendered a melodious Sri Lankan song “Ra Ra Ra Bombiye”.
The assembly ended with the vote of thanks proposed by the children to the principal, Vice Principals, the teachers, support staff and most importantly, their own friends, who were the inspiration behind the show.
