Assembly: Grade 6 C
Students of 6C greatly appreciated the chance to perform their assembly for their fellow students. Their greatest hope was to make the audience laugh, resulting in an assembly program with a subtle theme of “Words,” where familiar characters from different books that they have read dropped into reality.
The play began with the narrators inviting the audience into the stage set-up as the classroom of 6C. What appeared to be a normal morning takes a strange turn when two wizards from The Cursed Child plop into the middle of the classroom – frightening both the students and the wizards. What followed was an engaging comedy, with larger-than-life villains like The Trunchbull and Darth Vader appearing, and the students of 6C – the ones playing themselves – tried their best to reclaim their classroom. Fortunately, they were not alone, but had Marie Curie and Magnes of Magnesia from their textbooks, and the more dubiously helpful but charismatic Captain Jack Sparrow on their side.
The play contained a lovely rendition of Pompeii with the young pianists of 6C accompanying the singers and was followed by a quiz for the audience. Each correct answer opened a portal back to the characters’ home worlds, sending everyone back to where they came from. In spite of surprise appearances from Messi, Ronaldo, and a Kim Jong Un who delivered a purely North Korea-centric news report, the students of 6C and their wizard friends managed to send everyone back to their home worlds, and bring the play to an end.
The students of 6C performed admirably, helping each other, and improvising when needed. The atmosphere was lively and the humour reached the audience. A heartfelt vote of thanks expressed the gratitude of the students for everyone who had helped them bring their assembly to the stage.
