Grade 5 Field Trip - Rail Museum
On January 10, 2025, 95 students of Grade 5, accompanied by four teachers, embarked on an educational field trip to the Rail Museum in Perumbur, Chennai. The primary objective of the visit was to provide students with an immersive learning experience about the history of railways, their technological advancements, and their role in shaping modern transportation.
We arrived at the Rail Museum at 10.15 am and students were introduced to the museum layout and the highlights of the exhibits. Students enjoyed a stimulated train ride that demonstrated how modern engines operate. The students explored a wide variety of exhibits, including:
- Vintage Locomotives: Steam engines, the oldest functioning locomotives in the world.
- Railway Models: Miniature models of iconic trains, complete with intricate details of compartments and stations.
- Artifacts: Historic items like old tickets, signaling equipment, and station furniture, showcasing the heritage of Indian Railways.
The students showed great enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the visit. The trip was a resounding success as it was a highly enriching experience that met its educational objectives. It provided students with a deeper understanding of railway heritage, its technological evolution, and its socio-economic impact.
